Over the past few months, I've made an effort more than ever to take care of my skin. I realized that your skin is the canvas that all beauty products go on top of. Your skin stays with you for the rest of your life, and it's never too early to start taking care of it because it's the only skin you get.
Let me give you a little background to my skincare routine throughout college: nothing. I would maybe use moisturizer samples I would get at Sephora every once in a while, but that was it. I would go to sleep with my makeup on (Sometimes figuring I could just wear it for a second day... LOL- that makes me cringe now...). So honestly, with my new skincare effort- anything would be an improvement to what I had been doing. Maybe you can relate- skincare can sometimes be an afterthought, especially if you're in your early 20s. We can often think, ehhh I can start that when I'm 30.
I can't tell you how happy I am that I did make that change. Not only does my skin just feel sooo different, it makes you feel good by taking care of yourself! Below I'm going to walk through my typical skincare routine, and some of my favorite products. While everyone's skin is different, I have done a lot of research and samples to find what I truly think is an awesome regime for your average 20-something gal.
Typical Night Skin Care Routine
Wash my face: with a damp washcloth. I used to think that was enough to clean my skin, but not anymore. If you truly want to get all of the dirt/oil/build-up from the day off, use a cleanser. I have been using Boscia's Detoxifying Black Charcoal Cleanser. What sold me on it was it's positive reviews (1,300+ 5 star reviews!) and it's deep cleansing abilities on my pores. It is gentle yet effective, and leaves my skin feeling really good. It gets slightly warm when in contact with the water- which helps open pores up for a truly deep clean. If you're looking for an alternative cleanser, the OleHenriksen The Clean Truth Foaming Cleanser is wonderful. It cleanses so well, and gives a nice bright glow due to the vitamin C.
Face Oil: The next step is to put the Luna Sleeping Night Oil by Sunday Riley on my entire face. It's a powerful retinol oil that aids in toning done redness and pores. I put a few drops on the back of my hand and rub it into my face. It originally starts out as a deep blue color but becomes transparent as it is rubbed in... I love this because it helps me see it's truly massaged it deep enough!
Face Moisturizing Treatment: I use the Good Genes All-in-One Lactic Treatment by Sunday Riley. This stuff has 1,200+ five star reviews on Sephora's website, and it's understandable after you've used it. I was sold after the first time, but like using many skincare products, the benefits only grow with continued use. My skin texture used to be a little bumpy (not like acne, just super small bumps on my forehead.. I don't think they were prevalent for anyone else to see but me, but I love how smooth it's made my skin texture). This has the craziest glow I've ever seen from a skincare product. If you're looking for a wonderful moisturizer that doesn't cost so much, The True Cream Aqua Bomb by Belif is so wonderful. The first time I sampled it, I put it on my left hand just to see what it felt like. A couple hours went by and I could still tell the difference in moisture between my left hand and right hand!
Lip Moisturizer: I typically just use Nivea because it's cheap and effective, but this winter, I've been using the Lip Sleeping Mask by Laneige and I'm in love. It's definitely ore than Nivea, but if you're looking for a product that is super hydrating and leaves your lips with a perfect pout, this is it. It has a super light berry flavor. I just put it on each night and let it soak up all that goodness for 8 hours. It comes with an applicator which I love not having to rub it on with my finger. I totally recommend this if your lips get dry in the winter, or you use a drying matte lipstick of any kind!
Typical Morning Skincare Routine
Morning Skincare Routine: Wash my face with a damp washcloth. Use a cleanser to get off any build-up/sweat/dirt from sleeping. Put on a moisturizer (Good Genes by Sunday Riley, Aqua Bomb). Put on eye cream to help settle down any puffiness in my eyes (Moisturizing Eye Bomb by Belif). Ready to go!!
Want to give even more love to your skin??
Exfoliate once or twice a week... This is important to help get the natural build-up of day to day life off. It has little particles in it that feel so good when you massage it on your face! This product will help make your skin go from dull to glowing! I love the Transforming Walnut Scrub by OleHenriksen.
Don't even know where to start? If you're looking for an easy to use system that is still affordable yet effective, check out OleHenriksen's Skin Care Line. They have four overarching regimes: Truth (Glow), Transform (speaks for itself), Balance (Oil Control), and Nurture (Hydration for dry/sensitive skin). Each of these regimes have cleansers, moisturizers, masks, etc. Their systems are easy to use, straight to the point, and most importantly, they work. Love it.
On my wish list... I've heard amazing things about the OleHenriksen Truth Serum. It's supposed to be the gateway to healthy, hydrated skin. I've used a sample one time and was so impressed. It helps for a variety of skincare issues (oily/dry/blemishes/fine lines/dullness)... aka NEED.
Do you have any must have skin care products?! I'd love to hear them!!
These Alo airbrush high waisted leggings are unreal. they will cost you a pretty penny, but they feel unlike any legging I’ve ever worn. when I first got them out of the box, I thought they felt stiff and tight. once I put them on, though, I was shocked by how they felt… so comfy, move-able. they truly fit like they are airbrushed on you (as the name of the legging says). The other thing I love is, I ate a big burger and truffle fries the night before, and was definitely feeling bloated and gross the day I wore these in the pictures. These kinda suppressed the bloating, without feeling tight or suffocating. I’m not sure how the magic worked, but I know it did. ;)
I personally went with the Slate Metallic/White because 1) I’ve been wanting a white pair of leggings 2) they are metallic which i LOVE but it’s not necessarily in-your-face bright and shiny. I wore mine hiking and have worn them doing Barre, but also just hanging out in my apartment. I know the quality of these are going to last so long, and I’m excited to think of all of the places these leggings will go with me (Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Niagra Falls..???)
if you’ve been looking for a splurge pair of leggings, I hiiiiighly recommend these. Check out the colors and see if there’s any that work for you!!
We've finally started to get that chill in the air and it really feels like fall! Nothing feels cozier than a warm drink, fuzzy sweater and cuddling up to your love. Here are the top 5 favorite things I've been obsessed with this Fall!!
This vest is sooo...sooo...sooo cozy. It's so soft, and the creamy color goes with everything!! I went with this one from Altar'd State because it went a little longer in the front than other vests I've seen. I've worn it to the Pumpkin Patch, work, around my apartment.. everywhere!! Click the picture above for the link to the vest :)
Kat Von D Shade & Light: Glimmer Eye Palette
Goodbye Naked Palette... Forever. Hello Kat Von D Shade and Light: Eye. I'm so obsessed with this palette. I like this more than the Naked: Heat because it's colors aren't as red/orange hued. This palette comes in matte and sparkly, but I thought with the holiday parties coming up, the sparkly would be more fitting. It's creamy colors sparkle (without being tacky) so beautifully. (P.S. I'll be doing a future post on how I do my eye makeup, specifically with this palette!) Click the picture for the link to this palette.
Sweet Vanilla Candle from Anthropologie
With a 55 hour burn time, this candle is about the only candle you need this Fall season. Sometimes cinnamon candles can be too spicy, and vanilla candles can be a little too sweet... So this candle has the best of both worlds! It's beautiful gold and round shape makes it beautiful to sit out as a decoration, but trust me- you'll be burning this baby every chance you get. It's the perfect Fall candle (and I'm picky about candles). Click either photo for a link to the candle. This specific candle is the "Round, Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon".
Glam Olive Green Leggings
Ok- I'm always on the hunt for cute, comfy leggings that don't cost an arm and a leg... Bonus points if they're different than your standard black leggings. Annnnddd... Here are the Aerie leggings. So comfy- I wish I could wear these all day every day. What I love about this pair is they have a little glam to them. There is a little sparkle sewed in the leggings. Nothing flashy at all.. Just a little more fun than your average pair of leggings. I wear them hiking, to the mall, running errands, etc. Bonus points because they come in so many colors. Even MORE bonus points because they're on sale right now!! Click the photo for the link to the leggings.
Autumn Country Playlist
I know people associate country music with warm weather, but there are so many country songs out there that'll make you wanna cozy up by the fire or get into the arms of someone you're crushing on. Here's my country playlist of my favorite Fall songs. (Also you can't listen to MGNO by Russell Dickerson and not jam out to it). There's a combo of slow, fast, love and fun songs on this playlist. Let me know what your favorite song is!!
ok SO sorry for going MIA for a little. The first few weeks back to school are just so so so busy... I'm starting to finally feel like a normal human being again ;) I've had so many blog posts in the works and I can't wait to start posting them for y'all!!
Embroidered jeans, embroidered dresses, embroidered shirts. TBH I didn't really like the trend at first, and I'm still really picky about which embroidered pieces I would actually buy. I have a little rule with myself that if I don't like a trend when I first see it (in magazines, on mannequins), I probably shouldn't wear it because I'll look back decades later and cringe again that I wore it. HOWEVER there's definitely been so many cute floral embroidered pieces out there, especially for this upcoming fall.
Here are some of my favs!!
as always, have a great week! Be on the lookout for some future posts with recipes and new favorite beauty buys!
Bachelorette Parties. Bachelor Parties. Weekend Getaway. Birthday Trip. Foodie Heaven. There's so many reasons to spend a weekend in Nashville, and since the city is in driving distance from many Southern and Midwestern cities, it lights up every single weekend. Living here is fun because there is always something new and different going on, but before I lived here- I, too, was making weekend visits exploring the city. The list below is what I would consider a perfect mix of what you think of Nashville (country music and Broadway), along with some of the new ~trendy~ areas of town. Many people arrive in Nashville on Thursday evening and stay through Sunday afternoon, so that'll be how the itinerary below goes.
Dinner: Puckett's Grocery & Restaurant. This cute Southern staple has it all, and does it all really well. They have my favorite BBQ in Nashville, but also awesome burgers, sandwiches, homemade desserts and cocktails. By going on a Thursday night, you'll want to make reservations because there will be live music. it's always really good live music- one show I heard the songwriters for Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, and Luke Bryan sing all of the #1 hits they wrote.
Broadway: It's your first night in Nashville, and chances are you're wanting to get that Honky Tonk experience! Broadway isn't too far from Pucketts, but you may want to Uber if there are people in your group wearing heels. Lower Broadway has soooo many bars all in a row, and each bar has multiple floors (including many with rooftops). You really can't go wrong with any of them, but my personal favorites are: FGL House (owned by Florida Georgia Line), Acme Feed & Seed, and Headquarters (lots of games!). Some of the iconic honky tonks that are well-known and well-loved are Tootsies World Famous Orchid Lounge, Honky Tonk Central, and Robert's Western World (which happens to have the cheapest beer on Broadway).
Brunch: Head to the Biscuit Love in Hillsboro Village. Biscuit Love is one of the most popular breakfast places in Nashville! they are known for all different types of meals with biscuits, but also have menu items that aren't served on a biscuit. I recommend the East Nasty, side of bacon (absolutely unreal) and an order of Bonuts for the table, which are biscuit donuts filled with a lemon mascarpone filling, served over a blueberry compote. they are sooo good. NOTE: there is a Biscuit Love in an area of the city called The Gulch, but that location has waits of up to two hours. This location in Hillsboro is near downtown, still adorable and little-to-no wait time every time I've gone!
Afternoon & Lunch: Shop around Hillsboro Village after brunch. Not only will it feel good to walk off that incredibly filling meal, but there are some of the cutest boutiques ever in Hillsboro. Once you finish up in Hillsboro, head to 12 South for some more shopping and walking around the cute town. Some of my favorites in 12 South are Draper James (Reese WItherspoon's store), White's Mercantile (I could spend hours in this store. Not just clothes, but many home goods. Great gift ideas in here! Owned by Hank Williams Jr.'s daughter), annnddd Sprinkles Cupcakes (cupcake ATM anyone?!). There are many photo murals in this area of town, like the I Believe in Nashville sign, as well as a beautiful striped wall in the signature Draper James' blue and white. Both of those signs are on the side of the Draper James store! There is also a super fun floral mural on the side of the Green Pea Salon. There are some delicious places to eat in 12 South, like Bartaco, but I'm guessing your group will be too full from Biscuit Love to even think about lunch. After this, I'd say to head back and get cleaned up and ready for dinner/evening plans.
Dinner: head to Saint Anejo in the Gulch for some amazing, amazing Mexican food and drinks. The restaurant is so sweet itself, but the food and music also bring cool vibes. This restaurant is pretty accommodating with groups, too! Saint Anejo's queso makes me never want to eat any other queso again... This restaurant is also in a convenient location to go out after.
Bars: The Gulch is the coolest area for some scenic nightlife. The first bar to check out would be L.A. Jackson. it's classy but not stuffy, it's fun but not obnoxious! Also has one of my favorite views in the city. You could spend alllll night there, but I would recommend also checking out L27 Rooftop Bar, which is at the top of the Westin Hotel. It feels really sleek and fun, and definitely enough space for a group. It's got two stories with sweeping views of the city. Lovvvee. While these bars aren't Broadway, they're really trendy and more upscale than Broadway, which gives you a chance to get a little dressed up!
Brunch: Le Sel. This place is super cute! It's a French restaurant, but has a really tasty brunch menu. A good reason to hit up this place is their Punch Bowl, which can either have Rum or Gin. It's ideal for groups, as it is literally just a huge bowl of delicious Punch! Fun fact if you like Taylor Swift: This restaurant is on the first floor of her Nashville condo's complex.
Afternoon & Lunch: This is your call based on the interests of your group, but I'll recommend a handful of favorites! Right near Le Sel is a place called Kung Fu Saloon which is a barcade. This would be a super fun way to spend the afternoon! If you want to check out the countryside of Nashville, head to Arrington Vineyards. This vineyard is owned by Brooks of Brooks and Dunn, and it is magical. The wine's are fabulous, you can bring your own picnic and just hang out! If you wanted to see one of Nashville's favorite parks, you could head to Centennial Park, which has a life-size replica of the Parthenon! Recommend bringing blankets and have a picnic there! You could also just spend the afternoon on Broadway. It isn't 21+ during the day, so this is the ideal time to go if you have people in your group under 21. Listen to some live music, eat some good food and drink some good drinks in that Nashville sun on a rooftop!
Evening: This evening is also your group's call, based on what interests y'all more. if you enjoyed the rooftop bars, plan to have dinner at Burger Republic in the Gulch (highly recommend the truffle tots) before heading to the rooftop bars. If you're looking for another rooftop bar in the Gulch you could check out Up! A Rooftop Lounge, at the top of a hotel. If you enjoyed Broadway and all of it's glory, head back there. Grab some dinner at Martin's BBQ Joint (there is a huge beer garden at this location), and head to Lower Broadway after. Don't forget to check out the hot dog stands for a late night snack!
Brunch: Y'all might think I'm crazy, but I'm gonna send you back to Puckett's. This location is in Franklin, which is a town about 20-30 minutes from Nashville. It's considered one of the cutest small towns in America, so I highly recommend you check it out. Puckett's brunch is one of the tastiest in the city. it's nothing fancy- but it's delicious, home-cooking, Southern food. They have a breakfast buffet that is to die for, with biscuits, bacon, waffles, sausages, fresh fruits, their wonderful fried chicken, and more. They also have a really fun breakfast menu that you can order entrees off of. Note: Their breakfast buffet stops around 11 am I believe. Good news: free parking garage across from Pucketts!
Afternoon: Spend the afternoon shopping around Franklin. There are cute boutiques, but a variety of other stores. It is a veryyyy dog friendly town, as well, so you can see all the cute pups! The town is quaint, sweet, Southern, and all around beautiful. Walk around before you start your drive back home! Some of my favorite stores in town are: Gin-O, Philanthropy, and Jondie.
There's a weekend in Nashville, friends! I'll certainly be posting more about places to go in Nashville, but this is an itinerary for a weekend Nashville :) If you're planning on heading to Nashville soon and have any questions, feel free to contact me below!
